KISS Shares Values of ‘American Dream’: US Ambassador

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) provides education to the underprivileged and opportunity to them to be what they want to be, said Mr. Timothy J. Roemer, His Excellency the U.S. Ambassador to India. He was on a visit to KISS and KIIT University on 7th April 2010, the first visit of an American Ambassador to Orissa in 12 years.

Further, it imparts shared American-Indian values of democracy and tolerance, he elaborated, adding that one of the key deliverables of this Program is that it would lead to jobs.

English Access Micro-Scholarship Program, sponsored by US Federal Government, was launched in KISS on 1st December 2009. It facilitates English language study to 100 tribal students of the institute for a period of two years.

Drawing a parallel between the values of ‘American Dream’ and Dr. A. Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, he said that Dr. Samanta is working to realize the dreams of thousands of underprivileged children by providing education and opportunities for employment. He congratulated Dr. Samanta for ‘walking alone’ to establish this remarkable centre of education. Mr. Roemer also unveiled a plaque in his honour in KISS campus.

Talent reflects on the smiling faces of these tribal children and they are the ones who would help propel India on global stage, he stated. In coming years, success of this institute would attract attention of many dignitaries of the world, he hoped, while adding that it is an honour to partner with KISS.

The institute translates into practice Gandhiji’s thoughts that every single individual matters and you be the change that you wish to see, he said, while informing that these thoughts are inspiration for President Obama as well. Mr. Roemer also interacted with World Cup Rugby Champion Team and achievers in different fields of the institute. He mingled freely with the tribal students, teachers and staff of KISS.
